Working with the USFS at Mt. Charleston

My time with the United States Forest Service was a fantastic way to learn more about how the Forest Service serves our state and local communities. In conjunction with Nevada SHPO, the US Forest Service conducted surveys and re-recorded sites around the Mt. Charleston area to review sites that have been surveyed in the past and to see if any cleanup or restoration projects are required, such as clearing out debris and trash.

Working alongside both the US Forest Service and the NV SHPO Site Stewards is a great way for others to learn more about these communities, and being able to learn from different people with diverse backgrounds is extremely insightful. Partnerships between federal and state agencies are vital for ensuring the community can be taken care of and that the areas we visited are not impacted by any destruction.

The most impressive feat was that the original plan was for several months of surveys and recording; however, NV SHPO and the US Forest Service sent out such rockstars that they were able to visit over 40+ sites and complete the project well in advance.
My experience with the US Forest Service and NV SHPO was an awesome one, and it helped me gain a new appreciation for what these agencies offer our local community.
